Additional Information:

  • Yearbook Cover Contest: Don’t forget to have your class vote for this year’s yearbook cover design! Voting will be closed on Tuesday, December 10th at 3:00 PM!
  • Read Naturally: On Friday, you should have received a packet of Read Naturally passages with a QR code on them! These can be used for fluency and reading comprehension strategies. By scanning the QR code using the camera on the iPad, students will be directed to a link that will read the passage aloud to them. Extra copies of any completed Read Naturally QR code files can be found in room 401 or by emailing Heather.
    • This slideshow requires JavaScript.

  • Backing Up Your Computer: Don’t forget to periodically back up all of the files on your computer! This will save a lot of grief and trouble in the future if anything should happen to your device! Check out our Feaster Charter Youtube video showing how to back up your computer using OneNote and OneDrive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3MPSoM0Mec&list=PLzHzLY9HdT2NTmtStvoQQDhTxd7EN9TV& index=3&t=140s
  • How are your students using their devices: We have been collecting information about how students are using their devices. We have been using screen time to see how long students are spending on their devices daily and to see what apps are most commonly used! You can check your student devices as well by:
    1. Go to settings
    2. Scroll to where you see Screen Time
    3. Check out the data and click around
      • If screen time is turned off, you can turn it on from this screen as well, please choose “this is my iPad” if setting up screen time
  • Imagine Math Parent Portal (see attached PDF): your parents can set up their own password which is linked to their student’s Imagine Math account! This would be great to share with your families during conferences especially if you are assigning Imagine Math for homework!
  • iPad Needs: If there is an issue with a student iPad, please either email Heather and Roel or send them to the Media Center in room 903. Students should not just be using a different iPad, they should only be using the device that was assigned to them.

  • Apple Distinguished School: We are excited to announce that our Apple Distinguished School recognition has been renewed! We have received distinguished status for 2019 – 2022. You can see our iBook here: https://books.apple.com/us/book/feaster-charter-school/id1314612310

  • Chrome Browser: We have noticed a lot of teachers who are having trouble logging on to the CVESD websites when they are using their computers. We have found that if you use Chrome, there are fewer errors or glitches when trying to login to the CVESD websites. If you are getting any errors on the CVESD website, please switch to Chrome.
  • SmartyAnts with the iOS Update: Last week, we sent out an email regarding an error when SmartyAnts when students have updated their device. We went around on Friday and resolved each iPad that had already been updated. You can tell that a device has been updated because the icons are smaller. If you have students who are having issues logging onto SmartyAnts whose device has been updated, try these steps:
    1. Go to settings
    2. Scroll down to Safari
    3. Find “Request Desktop Site”
    4. Turn off
  • Tech Tip for Using Camera as Doc Cam: when you have your iPad set up as a document camera, you may notice that when you write, your camera refocuses on your hand and goes blurry. This can be distracting! To stop this from happening, open the camera, hold down on the screen until you see “AE/AF LOCK” at the top in yellow. This will stop the camera from focusing on anything other than the paper you are writing on.
  • On the Blog this Week: Check out tech tips including how to make a QR code and how to make sure that your iPad camera does not go blurry when you are using it as a doc cam.

Additional Information:

  • Sub Plans: Reminder that when you create sub plans it is important that your plans do not rely on technology, whether student devices or teacher devices. The Internet connection can go out unexpectedly and it’s challenging for a sub to make changes in the moment when their lessons rely on things being presented from classroom computers.
  • Incentive Punch Cards: the Positive Behavior Committee has given each student a punch card to complete when they get 5 of the incentive tickets! Once your students have completed their card, please give it to Ms. Perezchica and she will make sure your student gets their prize!
  • **See Attachments** 3rd-8th Imagine Math Parent Letters: attached, you will find a parent letter that will help them get Imagine Math going at home and see how their students are doing on the program! The letter is available in English and Spanish and it has a place for you to include the student login information.
  • Restricting Avatars on Imagine Math: if you would like to restrict the time when students can change their avatar, follow these instructions:
    • 1. Log onto Imagine Math
    • 2. Click “Classrooms” which can be found under “Management”
    • 3. Scroll down to where you see “Avatar Setting”
    • 4. Set the time and day restrictions you would like
    • 5. Click save
  • Parking Numbers in Sub Plans: Please make sure that you include your parking spot number and which parking lot (front/back) when you request a substitute. This will prevent guest teachers from parking in a reserved spot.
  • Private Browsing Mode: We have seen some students who are searching the web on “private browsing mode.” This will hide their search history. You can tell if a student is in private browsing mode because their search bar will be black instead of white or dark grey.

Additional Information

  •  Attendance Matters: If you noticed that you have a student who is consistently absent or late, we have attached two PDFs that could be helpful to share during parent/teacher conferences – on goes over signs and symptoms for staying at home, going to the doctor and going to school and the other is our Attendance Matters flyer

  • PBIS Video: Check out and share the latest PBIS video for technology by going to this link
  • Saving a Page to Your Homescreen: One of the easiest ways to consistently access commonly used websites, like the CVESD Student Page, is to have students save them to their homescreen:
    • open the webpage
    • click the arrow at the upper right-hand corner
    • choose “save to homescreen”
    • name the website
  • iPads During Electives: As a reminder, students can use your homeroom iPad devices during electives as long as you have everyone using the same iPad each day. Students should carefully inspect the case and the screen for any damage when they first get the device and when they return it.
  • Calm and Headspace: If you would like access to Mindfulness apps like Calm and Headspace to use with your students, check out the links below to create your free teacher account:
