July 2018

WEEK OF July 30th Week # 2

● We have a Growth Mindset ● We Keep all Staff & Every Student in Mind ● We Commit & Follow Through ●

  • Shout Out to Marta, Melissa, Marcela and Nurse Cassandra for keeping all staff and every student in mind as they successfully registered, enrolled and verified residency, along with a ton of other tasks to ensure that 1200 students were ready to start the school year!
  • Shout out to Mrs. Treter, Mrs. Rivaldi, Mrs. Diaz (Slabaugh), Ms. Ana, Coach Guglielmo and Coach Johnson for committing and following through as they helped support our students and noon duties during lunch all last week to help ensure that students knew the lunchtime procedures and felt comfortable during their first week back to school.
  • Shout out to Alex, Christian, Juan, Marcial, & Abraham for keeping all staff and every student in mind as they worked around the clock to ensure that the campus was ready for students on Monday!
  • Shout out to all of our Instructional Assistants for having a growth mindset as they spent the first week in TK and kindergarten classrooms helping our students who were struggling to adjust to a school routine. There were a lot of tears but they made those kiddos feel welcome.

Pictures: Check out Mrs. Martinez, Ms. Palacio, and Ms. Fang’s classes engage in trust circles! What a great way to build community and trust!

  • Rolling out Devices: We are lucky to have a 1:1 program here at Feaster which means that each student has their own iPad! Before assigning devices, it is required to have the signed AUP returned and to teach at least one Common Sense Media lesson from the website (see attached sign in instructions).
  • Acceptable Use Policy (AUP): Each year, we send home an AUP for students. Please take time everyday during the first week to go over each point on this document. The students will not be able use their devices until this is signed and returned.
  • Insurance: Parents can purchase insurance from the front office for $35. Last year, we would get an average of 4 devices each week with cracked screens which cost $80 for the parents to repair. The $35 will cover one incident each year.
  • Mobile Device Management: We will be able to install apps and restrictions remotely again this year! Please remember to no enter an Apple ID or passcode of any kind on the devices. Take some time with your teams to discuss purposeful apps that you would like installed. You can send a list
to heather.walker@cvesd.organd For now, we will only be doing free apps and any paid apps will be discussed and reviewed by the Tech Committee through your Tech Committee Rep.
  • Common Sense Media: These lessons walk students through being a successful digital citizen! Before using your devices, you must teach at least one lesson. These are great to do during the first week, before electives start. See the attached resources for more information!
  • Printers: If your printer is not yet connected to your computer, we will be coming around to support with this. Please email and if you need support with this. We will be coming around as soon as possible, but please have the address ordered so that we can install it. You can also install the printer yourself by:

1. Plug into your computer via UBSC or USB

2. Go to settings (the grey gear)

3. Click printers

4. Click the plus button

5. Login (only if prompted)

6. Scroll through to find the printer that says “USB”

7. Click add

8. Rename the printer something that makes sense to you

  • USBC to USB converter: The new computers have an updated USBC port, but you can purchase a converter so that you can still use all your tech with USB ports. The link is an approved Amazon vendor, the school will reimburse you if the converter is purchased from an approved vendor
    USBC to USB Converter
  • USBC to VGA: If you are using a doc cam instead of an Apple TV this year, you will need a VGA to USBC adapter. You can purchase this through Amazon: AmazonBasics USB 3.1 Type-C to VGA Adapter – Black USBC to VGA Adapter
